Dr. Mathew is appointed as the Coordinator for the Regional Council of Church of God churches working across gulf countries in the middle east region. This council comprises of all national overseers , presided by the Regional Superintendent.
The Church of God World Missions (COGWM) recently established a new region called the Gulf Countries of the Middle East (GCME), marking a historic milestone for the church in this area. This decision reflects the growing significance of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations in advancing the ministry’s global mission. The new region was inaugurated under the leadership of Dr. Sushil Mathew, the newly appointed Regional Superintendent. The GCME region aims to enhance collaboration, strengthen leadership structures, and address unique challenges faced by the church across Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE and a CC. This development underscores COGWM’s commitment to expanding its reach while maintaining its foundational principles of faith, integrity, and accountability.
Rev. Dr. K. O. Mathew serves as the Presiding Bishop and holds the distinguished office of National Overseer for the Church of God in the United Arab Emirates. The Church of God, headquartered in Cleveland, Tennessee, USA, is a globally recognized Pentecostal Christian denomination, encompassing over 7 million adherents across 178 nations and territories. The denomination’s extensive ministry network comprises approximately 36,000 congregations worldwide. Leadership within the Church of God includes Dr. Gary Lewis as the General Overseer, Dr. Thomas Propes as the General Director for Church of God World Missions (COGWM), Dr. Stephen Darnell as the Field Director for COGWM in Europe, the Middle East, CIS, and Russia, and Dr. Sushil Mathew as the Superintendent overseeing the Gulf Countries of the Middle East (GCME).
Gilgal Biblical Seminary is a theological seminary established in the Middle East as a result of the vision and efforts of the President Dr. K O Mathew in the year 2000. It has received accreditation from both Asia Theological Association and COG Grade Level IV (USA). It is the only seminary in the Middle East to have received these two accreditations. GBS received its accreditation from ATA in the year 2010 and COG Grade Level IV from the year 2015 onwards.
Over 300 graduates have passed out of GBS and are serving currently as faculties in different seminaries and colleges; as leaders of NGO’s organization and as ordained leaders for the various denominational church.
GBS awarded doctoral degrees to Rev. Andrew David Thompson, Chaplin – Anglican Churches in UK (Ph.d- Publications) and Mr. E.P. Johnson, President of Indian Association Sharjah,(Honorary), for his outstanding all around contribution to the expatriate community in UAE.
The Sharjah Worship Centre holds a distinguished position as a pivotal spiritual hub for the expatriate community from Kerala. The establishment of this revered space arose from the pressing need for a larger worship facility, as previously allocated venues proved insufficient to accommodate the growing congregation. Rev. Dr. K. O. Mathew, one of the visionaries behind its inception, played an instrumental role through his unwavering dedication and exemplary leadership. In recognition of his invaluable contributions, the management has conferred upon him the lifetime honor of serving as the General Secretary.
The United Pentecostal Fellowship (UPF) stands as the largest Pentecostal organization in the Middle East, a testament to visionary leadership and dedication. Rev. Dr. K. O. Mathew, a key architect behind the establishment of UPF, initially undertook coordination responsibilities to ensure its progress. His efforts, alongside committed executives, transformed modest gatherings into a thriving network of churches. Established in 1982, UPF emerged as a unifying force for churches in Dubai and Sharjah, eventually expanding in 2019 to encompass all seven emirates of the UAE. Today, UPF UAE serves as a unified forum representing 66 churches, fostering spiritual unity, friendship, and adherence to divine principles.
UPF UAE is dedicated to promoting holistic upliftment through various initiatives, including united conventions, children’s student camps, Talent Days for nurturing individual skills, book fairs, and diverse charitable activities within and beyond the UAE. These efforts are deeply rooted in the proclamation of the Gospel and the spirit of community service. The remarkable success of UPF UAE’s activities is attributed not only to divine blessings but also to the religious harmony and generosity of the UAE’s leadership.
The Inter Collegiate Prayer Fellowship (ICPF), officially established in 1980, is a ministry dedicated to imparting a message of hope and restoration to senior high school and college students. Originating in 1973 in India with retreats and student camps, it was later registered as an educational and charitable society in 1988. Today, ICPF’s impact extends to nearly 15 countries worldwide.
In the UAE, ICPF commenced its operations in 1992, initially in Dubai and Sharjah, before expanding to Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain. Over the past 25 years, the ministry has reached more than 20,000 teenagers and children, fostering self-empowerment, confidence, and sensitivity to God’s greater purpose in their lives. In recognition of his tireless efforts and profound contributions to its establishment, ICPF UAE honored Rev. Dr. K. O. Mathew with the title of Senior Patron for ICPF ministries in the region.
